About Me
I have been a therapist and clinical supervisor in private practice, and in family service and children's mental health agencies for twenty-five years. I have worked as a Clinical Supervisor, Instructor and Manager in the University of Guelph's Couple and Family Therapy training program and Centre, and in Family Service and Children's mental health agencies. I have also presented at various workshops and wellness and therapeutic groups. This broad range of experiences combined with my continued study of cutting edge ideas in the field of individual, couple and family psychotherapy support my continued development as a caring, compassionate and knowledgeable therapist. I am able to help people dealing with a diverse range of life's challenges and those who simply want to live a more fulfilling life.
While I am skilled in and have taught many models of therapy including Systemic and other Family therapies, Emotionally-focused couples therapy, EMDR, Solution Focused therapy, and Cognitive-BehaviouraI therapy (CBT), I have bee significantly influenced by Narrative Therapy. I have seen amazing change in people when they begin to question the accuracy of the negative stories about themselves that have adversely impacted their lives. Narrative Therapy is a strength-based, collaborative approach to dealing with problems, to improving one's outlook on life or helping to explore and connect with the values, intentions, hopes and dreams that are precious to you so that you might more fully live them out. For the last 4 years I have been learning and practicing Internal Family Systems (IFS) therapy and looking for ways to integrate the best of Narrative Therapy with important developments in IFS.
